New Album 'Legacy' by Tony Hightower

 from When We Speak TV

'Legacy' by Tony Hightower Is A Dedication To Mother

At a time when Jazz music could truly use a boost in listenership, singer Tony Hightower is on a mission to be the bridge to help a younger generation of appreciators crossover. With his sophomore album LEGACY entering the marketplace, all-around singer/entertainer Hightower – a protégé of the late Freddy Cole - is leveraging his R&B and Hip-Hop roots to entice more young people to dig jazz.

Julie Dexter and thehc3 bring you "The Smiling Hour"

http://ift.tt/1JCrcdwJulie Dexter has teamed up with TheHC3 to bring you, The Smiling Hour

The Smiling Hour is a collaboration between British songstress Julie Dexter and thehc3; Nick Rosen(p), Kevin Smith(b) & Henry Conerway III(d). Solo artists in their own right, this group of musicians have joined together to record a collection of standards. “The record came about very organically” they say. “Julie didn’t know it at the time, but she put together a string of shows and called each member of thehc3 separately.” Rosen’s arrangements of the classics; Billie Holiday’s, Good Morning Heartache and People Make The World Go Round set the tone for the album. The group chose songs and composers that have influenced or impacted them in some way; The Smiling Hour, the title track, pays homage to the legendary Sarah Vaughan; while Cotton Tail salutes the great Duke Ellington. This musical offering with arrangements by each band member, produces a fresh take on favorites from The Great American Songbook. Julie Dexter & thehc3 are currently taking bookings for a tour in the fall of 2015.

Chandra Currelley CD Release at Acoustix Jazz

on

at
840 Marietta St.
Atlanta, GA

Chandra Currelley-Young has done extensive work with director and writer Tyler Perry.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT CHANDRA CURRELLEY
(FROM WIKIPEDIA)
In 1992, Chandra left "The S.O.S. Band" to pursue her career in acting and theater. Since that time, she has blazed a fiery trail in the world of theater.  Because of her excellent theatrical abilities, Chandra was Selected by Debbie Allen to be the featured soloist in her production entitled Soul Possessed which debuted at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. This was an extremely rhythmic production that consisted of interpretive dance and song. The show featured the likes of Patti Labelle, Desmond Richardson (FOSSE), Natalie Belcon (RENT), Carmen de Lavallade (Alvin Ailey), Miguel Angel, Sharon Brown, Jason Samuels-Smith (Bring Da Noise), and many other artists.

Tom Jones then produced a show, through his production company, Jomandi, specifically for Chandra entitled "SLAM", which debuted at Atlanta's Jomandi Theatre and was later featured at the Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C. It was because of her incredible performance in D.C. that Chandra was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award in 2000 for Outstanding Lead Actress for the character "Autumn".
Chandra's breakout role came when she starred in the David Petrarca's hit production, "Dinah Was", the story of the legendary Dinah Washington, a great songstress from the 1950s era. Chandra was picked directly by David Petrarca because of her awesome ability to embody the role of Dinah Washington. This role was a perfect fit for her from the music, the character of Dinah Washington, and the artistic expression that was allowed.

She's most recently established her acting career by appearing in Tyler Perry productions such as Madea's Big Happy Family the play as Shirley, in the movie as Sister Laura and many other Tyler Perry production. She can also be seen in the TV show Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse.
