Have you heard the song "Up" by Arrested Development?

From: When We Speak TV on Blogger

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13rAZGFjnZM

Music is like an emotional picture for me because at any given time, a song can evoke my emotions and paint a picture in my mind.  Have you ever listen to a song and it reminded you of something?
I can listen to music and it's almost like I'm at that particular moment all over again.  But not all music does that, some songs encourage me to keep moving....and everyone that has ever gone after a dream or is currently going after a dream knows that you definitely have to keep yourself encouraged.
http://amzn.to/1UMnxRG
That's exactly why I love the song Up by Arrested Development.  Yep that's right Arrested Development!!!  Often when I mention the group to people, they are not aware that Arrested Development is still together and doing music.....but they are, so check out their new album This Was Never Home.

THE STORY:
When I first moved to Atlanta, I used to sing in a group and as time went on, the group began to elevate and the gigs got bigger and bigger.  I handled all the online and media promotions of the group and I felt so successful when I found out that my work was the reason that people was finding out who we were.  Then, after I had been with the group for about six years, we disband.  Initially I remember being so hurt considering that I felt that I we had so much potential.  My heart was crushed and I felt that all the work, I had done was totally in vain.  I thought that my success was driven by the success of the group and the breakup totally crushed my enthusiasm.

BACK TO THE MUSIC:
When I hear the song Up by Arrested Development, it actually reminds me of the time I sang with the group, but not in a bad way.  The song says, "....can't go back to where we started. Let's keep it up, oh the only way is up."  Once I heard those lyrics it immediately encouraged me!  I can't go back and change what happened or what could have been in the past but I can keep it up.  My vision doesn't have to die just because one chapter closed....I just got to "keep it up" because the only way from here is "up!"
This song became such a great encouragement to me, that I decide that myself and some of the previous group members should get together and do a cover.....Hope you like it!!!

Up by Arrested Development performed by Tongela Renee, Jermaine Sain, Chester Lawrence, Hope Celeste, and K. Caprice

You can find "Fortress" on iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play Music, Spotify, and MANY other digital stores. And if you're "old fashion", you can order a physical (CD) copy at www.kurtscobie.com/fortress.

My hope is that this project will allow for people to experience the peace that comes from God's covering. That, perhaps, this EP will help you discover what it means to "rest in the shadow of the Almighty God".

Please help me out today by, first, downloading the EP and/or ordering a CD. And, second, please share these songs with your friends and family. Tweet about it. Instagram about it. Share it on Facebook. And just spread the word. I really appreciate it!

Finally, if you could leave a review (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) that would be awesome! Reviews help to further spread the music. It only takes a minute and it means a lot!

So, happy new music day! I hope this EP blesses you! Thanks, times a billion, for supporting me and my art.

Cheers!

Trumpet: Russell Gunn

What can I say about Russell Gunn?  Hmm..  I was pleased to have the opportunity to speak with him on When We Speak.   I was slightly familiar with his artistry because I’ve seen him perform with Julie Dexter a few times and I was aware that he also did an album with Dionne Farris.  However, I never knew that I would grow to admire him so much….to me he’s a legend in his own right!

And of course, when speaking to a legend, everything that comes out of their month is full of wisdom.  That’s why it took me over two months to edit his interview.  Mainly because I was trying to debate what …good stuff was I going to remove!  So what I decided was to break the interview up into sections….so stay tuned for more video snippet from my interview with Russell Gunn.
So please check out our interview with Russell Gunn!  And purchase his music!

Coping With Stress As An #IndieArtist

In a world full of images of the glamorous life of music, sometimes it’s difficult dealing with the realities of the entertainment industry. For most indie artists, the "road to fame" is not as glamorous as it’s portrayed. Along with that can also come stress.
Watch as IDK shares with Jermaine Sain, how they cope with the stress of artistry.

Why You Should Support Indie Music

Recently, I was speaking with a friend of mine in Texas. We started talking about the music industry, in particularly the indie music industry. He began to tell me about his struggles in the industry. As we talked more, I began to share with him some of the things that have been told to me from some of my artist friends in Atlanta.
After our conversation was over, I realized that most indie artists are struggling with the same things....SUPPORT
Therefore, I want to encourage each of you to support indie artists because they work very hard to provide you with great music…usually from their own bank accounts. There are numerous ways to support these artists. One way would be just to share their music when you see it on social media sites. If you have a blog, you could voluntarily write a review about their music. Lastly, if they are a guest on When We Speak, you should share their interview with us, rate it, and comment.
One thing I’ve learned through my research of blogging and social media is that a lot is based off comments, views, likes, etc. Did you know that even if you hit the “thumbs down” on a video, it’s better than not clicking anything at all? Sounds crazy right? Well, this is how the internet looks at it; if you clicked dislike, the video impacted you enough to leave your opinion about it.
Watch the video below as singer, Winston Warrior, also explains the importance of supporting indie music like himself….

While searching checking my emails, talking on the phone, and browsing the internet, all at one time!  (MULTITASKING!)  I ran across a very interesting article  on www.stereogum.com talking about how indie musicians can break even when it comes to the costs of being an indie artist!  The article references rock music alot, however I believe it's a good article for anyone to check out, regardless of their genre of music.  Therefore, I wanted to share the article with you....  I hope this helps you along your artistic journey!

Gareth Asher Interview at Eddie's Attic

I’m continuously online looking for indie music, people to interview on When We Speak, and trying to keep up with what previous guests are doing.  Well this particular day, I was checking out Winston Warrior and I found out that he was nominated for the Georgia Music Awards.
Gareth Asher was also one of the artist listed and I really liked his music so I ended up posting him as the When We Speak TV Artist Spotlight in August.  Then, one day I was looking through the Xfinity on Demand Channel and saw a section called GetLocalAtl.    While looking through the different things listed, ironically they had videos of some of the people nominated for the Georgia Music Award…..I think you already know whose video was listed…..if not, it was Get It Right by Gareth Asher.
Okay, so I said all that to say that I immediately realized that I had remember this guy’s name for a reason and he was in some way connected to my human experience….and in August ,  I was blessed with the opportunity to meet Gareth Asher  at Eddie’s Attic for an interview!
I said all that to say to you again that …..Nothing Happens by Chance.
